FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

Join

  1. A: To join, add yourself to our e-mail list, simply go to our Join page, click to be taken to our e-mail service, enter your profile information into the form and click the 'Subscribe' button. No password needed. You will receive a welcome notice confirmation to your e-mail address. Make sure to opt-in for confirmation or you will not be added to our list. Please subscribe using only one unrestricted valid e-mail address. You must join to receive our group e-mail, this e-mail is never sent unsolicited.

When you join, you are joining a professional independent user group private volunteer membership association.

Each e-mail sent using this list will be clearly identified as being from our group, via our e-mail service. For the exact name of our e-mail service provider, see Join.

If you live outside the greater Denver, Colorado (USA), metropolitan area or the Colorado front range of the Rocky Mountains, please see the FAQ below.

  2. A: To "unjoin" (unsubscribe), remove yourself from our list, simply respond directly to any e-mail sent to you from us, via our e-mail service, by clicking the link at the bottom of the e-mail message you received. You will be taken directly to your record at our e-mail service, confirm to unsubscribe from the list, and submit. No password needed. You will receive immediate confirmation.

  3. A: To change your e-mail address or other profile data, simply respond directly to any e-mail sent to you from us, via our e-mail service, by clicking the update your profile link at the bottom of the e-mail message you received. You will be taken directly to your record at our e-mail service, change your profile and click to update. No password needed. You will receive automatic confirmation.

You may also change your e-mail address by clicking the join link and entering your old e-mail address on our Join form and then follow the instructions to update your profile. This works even if you do not have an old e-mail message from us to use to click the link to respond to change your profile.

You may also change your e-mail address by unsubscribing, then joining again with your new e-mail address.

  4. A: Probably, yes. Once you are on the list you will likely stay on the list until you remove yourself from the list or your e-mail address becomes unusable, including when you over time do not open our messages.

When e-mail is returned from your inactive e-mail address or your address is identified by our e-mail service as a possible type of spam address, you will be automatically removed from our e-mail list by our e-mail service. In that case, you will need to join again with a different e-mail address to continue on our list.

You may also be removed from the group e-mail list when the answers to your profile are invalid or you sign up from an area outside of our user group service location. If you have inadvertently provided invalid responses on your profile, you will need to update your profile to continue on our list. If you have already been removed from the list, you will need to join again.

Forwarding Messages -- Important security note: If you forward to someone else your e-mail from our group, you will also be forwarding to someone else the ability to review or update your personal sign up survey questions! To avoid that possibility, delete the links at the bottom of the e-mail message you are forwarding - before you forward your message! This is your responsibility.

  5. A: Yes, selected e-mail messages sent are available. See Messages to view the list of archive e-mail messages. You do not need to be on our e-mail list to read these messages. Some messages, like meeting reminders, are not archived.

  6. A: This list has been set up so that members on the list can not send e-mail to other members on the list, nor can they see the list or any information about others on the list. Only the list owner, the group, can send e-mails to members on the list. This restriction is in accordance with our group policy and helps keep you from being a likely spam target. This list can not be propagated to other lists by anyone. This list is never allowed to be given to anyone, including sponsors or other advertisers, or our meeting or Study Group sponsors, host sponsors, presenters, etc. This has always been our group policy.

Also, only e-mail announcements concerning our group events and activities for which our members might participate, and other related information, will be e-mailed to you from this list. This other related information may include: notices from other user groups, notices from Microsoft, notices from other companies, etc. Each e-mail sent using this list will be clearly identified as being from our group, via our e-mail service. For the exact name of our e-mail service provider, see See Join.

Our e-mail service is generally a fee paid service, it is not free to this group. Members who subscribe are not charged by the e-mail service provider. Members who subscribe are not charged by this group. This service is free to all of our members. The annual fee is paid by the leader of this group (see Contact). The leader receives generous donations from our members to reimburse the fee for this service. Thank you, members, for your donations!

You will see an identification note from the e-mail service company on each e-mail message and on our subscription form at our e-mail service. That name will clearly identify them as our e-mail service by name. Our e-mail service will NOT add any lines of advertisements for other companies (except for themselves) on e-mails sent from our group, nor on the e-mail list sign up form for our group. The e-mail service may display other company ads on their own company web site pages, but not on those web site pages that are used by our group members. Other companies do not have access to our group list nor to any specific or general member information. Advertisements or identification of sponsors of this group may be included in messages from this group.

The limited profile information captured at the time a member joins may be used for our group.

If you use a spam filter and you are not receiving our messages, contact the group for the specific e-mail address that you can use in your filter to always accept our e-mails, see Contacts. Plus, note that we can not respond to spam alert procedures that require a manual intervention for you to receive our e-mails. Also see FAQ Join Q4.

Register and Attend

  1. A: We encourage you to register for each of our meetings via Meetup and our other events via specific event sites. We announce registration requirements both on this web site and in the e-mail message(s) that precede each meeting and event. When it is required, this is a requirement of the building in which we meet, in order to limit the number of attendees to comply with maximum room sizes. Once the limit has been reached, we will be unable to accommodate additional attendees. We have been very close to or at our maximum size, so please register to attend, when required in an e-mail. We will also use those numbers to plan for refreshments and door prizes that will be available from time to time. In addition, we will also use these numbers to determine the level of interest with specific topics. Registration is only applicable when registration is required. When required, please register online and as soon as you can after seeing each meeting posted for registration online. See our Home Page for the exact dates we meet. Most of our user group meetings and events are not Microsoft events and therefore do not use the Microsoft events registration process. When registration is required, you may attend without registering, only when space is available, at the start of the event! Since some people register and do not attend, you may find that you can still attend, even when you have not registered, although space is not guaranteed.

  2. A: No, there is no registration required to attend the Study Group; however, you may RSVP via Meetup. Remember, our Study Group space is limited. Spaces are filled on a first come basis, may be shared, and not guaranteed -- come early!

  3. A: You join once, but register for each meeting when required (see above). There is no registration for the Study Group; however, you may RSVP via Meetup. Registration is separate from joining the group. You don't need to register for most of our meetings!

  4. A: When Study Group have been posted for review online, you may review the topics in order to decide to attend that Study Group. Check our Study Group for the most up to date exact dates of our Study Group, plus Join to get e-mail notices. Also, check our Study Group page.

  5. A: The building in which we meet for our Presentation meetings has security. The doors and elevators may be closed and locked each weekday. Our meetings begin at 6:00 PM, so if you arrive on time or early you should not have a problem getting inside or using the elevators.

There has been increased security in the building and a more stringent adherence to the building security policies. Our host may not own the building nor control its security, and may be a tenant along with many other tenants and our group is provided space, the use of their equipment, and access to their property. We must be mindful of other tenants in the building and their security requirements, as well as the security of those other tenants and their employees working during the time of our meetings. We all need to endure some additional minor inconveniences for the cause of security. One might also be grateful for the diligent use of security while one is inside the building.

Each month special precautions are taken to provide for our specific needs in order to allow our entry into the building for our events, to give our members a window in which to arrive, providing supervised access to the building, elevators, and secure areas. We cannot guarantee that our specific access will always be honored. If needed, the group may have to enforce the start time to coincide with the building security restrictions and therefore not provide specialized access to those who cannot arrive on time. If you do not feel safe coming to our meetings, do not come, your determination to come is your decision. Again, our meetings begin at 6:00 p.m. - arrive before then and you should not have a problem getting inside. You are also missing valuable sessions of the meetings when you arrive late.

  6. A: Often, Microsoft, meeting sponsors, group sponsors, presenters, members, guests, friends, and others provide valuable door prizes to be awarded during our presentation meetings.

To win any of our door prizes offered during a presentation meeting, follow these complete door prize requirements and details (we may change these requirements as needed, we will inform you during each meeting when changes occur):

    2. Include your name and current e-mail address on your entry.
    3. Only one entry per person per meeting allowed.
    4. Door prizes may be awarded at any time during the meeting.
    5. Door prizes announced are subject to change, may not be available, and may be substituted at the total discretion of the user group.

    11. You agree to send a business-like thank you by e-mail to your door prize provider (you will be given the name and e-mail address to send your thank you). See How to Review - Warning Notice.

It is our group's custom for door prize winners to send a personal individual but business-like thank you e-mail note to the provider of each door prize won. It is also our group's custom that the note indicates how much the winner appreciates the support of our group by the door prize provider, including the door prize. Winners should ensure that they obtain the name and the e-mail address of their door prize donor. See Past Meetings to view past door prizes.

There are generally no obligations (other than the required thank you note) required of the winners of our door prizes; however, winners should always ask before selecting a specific door prize. For book, software, or some other door prizes, you may be asked and should expect to help your fellow group members by writing a review of the item. Some restrictions may apply to some door prizes. Some door prizes may not be transferable. Some door prizes may include an expiration date. The providers or suppliers of door prizes may place additional restrictions on door prizes.

You are responsible to determine if you are eligible to receive door prizes when you are restricted by your company or government affiliation. The group will not provide documentation on the value (if any) for any door prize.
